Summit YMCA Honors Community Outreach Partners

The Community Outreach Department of the Summit YMCA hosted a dinner on Wednesday, July 16 at the NJ Visual Arts Center to celebrate the Y’s outreach programs and to honor community groups who partner and work with the Y throughout the year.  Special honorees were Lauri Novick, Regional Director of “Let’s Get Ready,” an SAT Prep Program offered free to local HS students through the Summit Y, and Summit resident Esther Toney, for her volunteer work with the Y’s Achievers program.

Other community groups who partner with the Y and honored at the dinner were: Overlook Hospital for their participation in the annual Latino Health Fair; Summit Youth Net which provides activities to Summit middle school and high school students; Career Connections Workshops, a support and resource program for unemployed adults, held at the Summit Y twice a year; and Literacy Volunteers of Union County who sponsor literacy tutor training throughout the year.

The Summit YMCA’s Black and Latino Achievers programs, which are free and open to local minority teens, were also highlighted. These included mentoring week in association with Novartis Pharmaceuticals; the annual college tour; and the Achievers Investor’s Club.  Summit Y Achievers attending the dinner were also honored for their participation in the Achiever Program and their individual accomplishments and volunteer work in their community.

Community Outreach programs at the Summit YMCA are funded through grants and funds raised through the annual Strong Kids Campaign.
